How can an empty bowl help end hunger?
Empty Bowls is a global fundraising movement started in 1990 by a teacher. His idea was to organize a charitable event to give artists and art students a way to make a personal difference by raising money for soup kitchens, food banks and other organizations fighting hunger locally.
The concept is simple:
Artists make and donate the hand-made bowls. Businesses donate the soup. The charity who receives the event proceeds hosts the event. The community comes together, buys tickets, takes a piece of functional art (bowls) home, eats some great food – all for the benefit of the chosen nonprofit.
